About Us

We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers, designers, and practitioners who conduct research, hold workshops and roundtables for professional designers, and teach classes at Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, the d.school.

Core Team:

Londa Schiebinger is the John L. Hinds Professor of History of Science at Stanford University, and Founding Director of Gendered Innovations in Science, Health & Medicine, Engineering, and Environment. She is a leading international expert on gender and intersectionality in science and technology and has addressed the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Korean National Assembly, and numerous others on those topics. Schiebinger received her Ph.D. from Harvard University and is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Hannah Jones is a design educator and researcher with expertise in design, collaboration, and sustainable futures. She served as a teaching fellow at Stanford University’s d.school (2015/16). Jones received her Ph.D. in Design from Goldsmiths, University of London, U.K. As a Lecturer in Design at Goldsmiths, Hannah developed teaching and research practices around the facilitation of interdisciplinary design processes that are open, emergent and inclusive.

Ann Grimes is the Director of Journalism Fellowships for the Starling Lab for Data Integrity, a research center at Stanford and the University of Southern California. Anchored in Stanford’s School of Engineering, the Lab focuses on using cutting-edge technology to prototype technical and editorial solutions to the problem of mis/information in the media. A veteran journalist, Grimes previously directed Stanford’s Graduate Journalism Program and co-directed the Brown Institute for Media Innovation, also anchored at Stanford Engineering.

Andrea Small is a design leader, strategist, and educator. As a former d.school teaching fellow, she and her cohort created award-winning education experiences and the d.school’s forthcoming book “Navigating Ambiguity.” Currently she co-teaches “Innovations in Inclusive Design” at the d.school, and leads advanced technology explorations for Samsung Research America’s R&D Innovation Strategy Team. Previously, Small was Director of Product and Portfolio Strategy at Herman Miller and Strategy Lead at the design consultancy fuseproject.
